Window Vertical Blinds
Repairing Your Window Vertical Blinds
The use of window vertical blinds in the home is continuing to grow as
homeowners and interior decor enthusiasts have realized that it is a fashionable way of treating windows. Window
vertical blinds that operate manually comprise of three main parts: the rail that is fitted above the window, the
slats (individual strips of material which are also referred to as louvers or vanes) and the pull cord or chain
that is used to open and close the blinds.
Window vertical blinds are a long lasting form of window treatment provided that they
are cleaned and maintained regularly. But even so, glitches can and do occur especially as a result of wear and
tear.
Determining The Cause Of The Problem
When your window vertical blinds are in need of repair, what can you do? First of all, you will
need to determine the cause of the problem. The most common problems that you would have come across with window
vertical blinds will either be something related to the head rail, slats or clips.
Luckily there is a solution to repairing the slats or clips on your own. Clips can break easily
through wear and tear and so can the slats. With a little help from a family member, you should be able to quite
easily replace them with new ones. But if there is an issue with the head rail, you might have to call in the
professionals.
Tips On Repairing Window Vertical Blinds
If there is damage to the slats then you will have to replace them. To detach the damaged slat
from the window vertical blinds, simply push the slat upwards and twist it slightly until it comes free. If the
slat was held in place by a clip then the slat needs to be taken out of the clip before removing it from the window
vertical blinds. Remove the chain that goes through the damaged vane and any other adjoining vanes. Position the
new vane where the old one was and push it gently but firmly into place. Take the chain and guide it through the
necessary vanes.
Another common problem with window vertical blinds is that
the clips are more often than not made of plastic and are therefore quite flimsy. The good news is that they
are easy to replace. Simply remove the clips from the head rail and attach new ones firmly in their place
followed by the slats.
The biggest job of all is when the head rail becomes damaged. One important piece of advice to
take note of is that if the window vertical blinds are still under warranty then you must not try to repair the head
rail yourself - this could only serve to invalidate your warranty should you make a mess of the repair. If the
problem lies in the head rail, it is best to call in the professionals to look into it.
If all that needs replacing is the chain of the window vertical blinds, then this job is simple enough. Remove each vane
and take the chain out from each one and replacing it with a new one. Then re-install the vanes in the same
manner as they were previously. If you find that the head rail holder or the veins are damaged, you should get a
professional to fix it.
