Roman Blinds Are Versatile

Roman blinds are among the most popular types of window treatment that are being used in homes today. They are made from fabric that has a unique folding system whereby the blinds fold into pleats when the blinds are rolled up.

Due to the high demand of Roman blinds in the world of interior decor, it is not difficult to source them locally in most home improvement stores. Roman blinds are a versatile type of window coverings and can be ordered specifically in cases where you need a certain size or even customized blinds if you want them to complement your existing theme.

The Way Roman Blinds Work

Basically, individual slats are inserted into the rear of a solid fabric panel. There is a pull cord attached to one side of the Roman blinds and when this is pulled on, the slats are forced to pile up on top of one another into neat pleats of fabric to allow the daylight into the room.

There are two main types of Roman blinds: flat and hobbled (or teardrop as they are also known as). The difference between the two is that when the blinds are lowered, the flat-styled blinds lay flat whereas the hobbled type has permanent pleats on it. The pleats on hobbled blinds are nicely stacked when the blinds are raised and this is great for insulation purpose.

Many kinds of fabric can be used in the manufacturing of Roman blinds. Cotton, silk and linen are among the most commonly used, and you can also find Roman blinds made from synthetics. It is also possible to have the blinds thin or lined; it depends on the effect you want to achieve for the room. If you want the room to have a light airy feel, then choose thin Roman blinds. If you want to create a warm atmosphere and block a good deal of daylight then the lined blinds would be your best bet.

Roman Blinds Are Also Great For Outdoors

The beauty of Roman blinds is that they are also suitable for use outdoors. Bamboo is probably the most popular material that is being used for this purpose as it helps to keep the patio area or gazebo cool and more comfortable.

Before buying Roman blinds you should ascertain where you intend to place the blinds. This is so that you can determine the kind of fabric texture and size of pleats you wish to have. Other considerations include resistance to UV rays, durability and of course the amount of light that can diffuse through the set of Roman blinds.
