Fabric Vertical Blinds
Care And Treatment Of Fabric Vertical Blinds
Fabric vertical blinds can be made from a wide range of materials but typically
strong fabrics are the first choice for many because the blinds seem to hang better. You will also find that
fabric vertical blinds are made in such a way that it allows for ease of cleaning.
Just as dust settles on any other household items, your window blinds will also get dusty after
a while and hence require regular cleaning. We all know that dirty looking drapes is the last thing any visitors to
our home want to see!
Regular Maintenance Of Fabric Vertical Blinds
Make it a point to keep your fabric vertical blinds clean through routine maintenance, such as on a weekly basis or
once in two weeks.
It goes without saying that if you clean your fabric vertical blinds regularly, then they should
never be in need of a deep clean. Simply by vacuuming the blinds on a weekly basis you will remove any dust
particles that could over time stick to the blinds and make them look grubby.
Tips On How To Deep Clean Your Fabric Vertical Blinds
If the condition of your fabric vertical blinds has become so bad that vacuuming doesn’t seem to
make any difference, then you will need to consider using deep cleaning methods. Basically you have two options to
choose from if your fabric vertical blinds have reached a stage such that a regular clean will not shift the dirt.
You will have to resort to a deep cleaning method such as steam cleaning or shampooing the blinds.
A hand held steam cleaner is the perfect gadget for
getting tough stains out of the fabric vertical blinds as well as removing bacteria. If you do not have a
specialized attachment for use with upholstery then you will have to get your hands on one. If you don’t
happen to have a steam cleaner, you can hire one or have someone come in and do the job for you. Make sure
that you protect the necessary area with old towels or bed linen before you commence the job. Keep a towel in
one hand to catch the excess spray from the steamer as you clean. It makes sense to start from the top slat
and work your way down to the bottom.
An alternative to steam cleaning is to shampoo the fabric vertical blinds by hand. You must make sure that the shampoo you are using is
specifically for use with cleaning by hand. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the preparation of the
mixture and test a small area first before proceeding to clean the entire blinds. Using a sponge that has been
dipped into the solution and then wrung out, start at the top of the blinds, scrubbing as you go along in a
downward direction until you get to the bottom.
If you are getting a new set of fabric vertical blinds, remember to routinely dust or vacuum them so that
they remain in good condition. Doing this will save you the hassle of deep cleaning them when they get too
dirty.
